Abingdon United Women were defeated at home on Wednesday evening by a strong Swindon Town side, in a 2-0 loss in the FAWNL.
Chris Smith made three changes to the side that faced Bournemouth Sports ten days before. Anais Harris-Beechers, Freya Gilmore and Charlotte Deeley all started for The Yellows.
It was Swindon on the front foot from the get to, but as ever, they were finding it difficult to get past Caitlin Crierie. The goalkeeper made a smart stop down to her left early on to deny the visitors.
The visitors had a few set pieces early on, which were defended well by skipper for the night Libby Gilmore.
Abingdon's first attack came via a free-kick, sent in by the captain to find Holly Sellwood, but former United keeper Hannah Cox claimed well in the penalty area.
Crierie continued to keep Swindon out with some fine goalkeeping, whilst Millie Hodge and Freya Gilmore battled well higher up for Smith's side.
However, Swindon would eventually take the lead. A corner in from the left found Sahara Osborne-Ricketts, also formerly of Abingdon, who headed home the opener in the game with 24 minutes played.
A few moments later it was two. Another corner in from the left this time went all the way in, via Billie Haynes' delivery, to double the visitors' lead.
Abingdon tried to find a way back into the game before the break. Molly Lygo looked to turn and shoot which was well defended by The Robins, before United hit the bar just seconds before the half time whistle.
Crierie continued her incredible form into the second half, making a close-range stop from a header to keep it to two.
On the hour mark, Swindon were awarded a penalty kick for a challenge in the area. Striker Annie Colston stepped up, but her effort was saved well by Crierie down to her left, to once again keep the score down.
Despite the battling efforts of United, it was Swindon who would take home all three points.
Abingdon United Women face Portishead Town this coming Sunday, February 16th, at The Northcourt in a 2pm kickoff.
