A new youth football season is beginning at Abingdon United, with nine established teams representing the club across the age groups and work beginning to build a tenth at U6 Mixed level.
The youth section currently includes the U18s, U16 Girls, U16 Boys, U15 Boys, U14 Boys, U12 Girls, U12 Boys, U9 Boys and U7 Boys. Together, they provide a pathway from a player’s first experience of organised football through to the final stages of youth competition.
After winning their league last season, the U18s have opened their West Division campaign in the Allied Counties Youth Football League with a victory.
There is also plenty to look forward to across the other older age groups. The U16 Girls, U16 Boys, U15 Boys and U14 Boys will all compete at A League level in their respective Oxfordshire youth and girls’ competitions.
The squads now playing as the U16 Girls and U15 Boys enter the season having won their respective A League titles last year. The U14 Boys finished third in the A League, while the U16 Boys secured fourth place. These achievements provide a strong foundation, but the new season brings fresh challenges and another opportunity for every team to develop.
At the youngest end of the youth section, the new U7 Boys will begin their first season with the club. Abingdon United is also starting to build a U6 Mixed group, creating the first step for the next generation of young players and, in time, a tenth youth team.
Results are one part of youth football, but the season is also about development, enjoyment, teamwork and giving young people the opportunity to grow within the club. None of this would be possible without the commitment of the coaches and volunteers, or the encouragement and practical support provided by parents and families throughout the season.
As Abingdon United marks its 80th anniversary, its growing youth section reflects both the club’s history and its future. We wish every player, coach and family an enjoyable and rewarding season.
