Head of Women's Football and First Team Manager Adam Wood to leave Abingdon United

Abingdon United can confirm and announce that Adam Wood has resigned from his role of Head of Women's Football/First Team Manager and Abingdon United committee.

In a statement he said:

“Firstly and most importantly I want it known that my decision was not one due to the club, players or management and is purely for personal reasons.

With Alicia and I recently announcing that we are expecting our third child, it became apparent that I need to review what I am doing outside of my normal day-to-day job from costs through to time spent. Unfortunately I have found that I don’t believe I can give the level of commitment Abingdon United need and deserve. Therefore, albeit with a heavy heart, I have decided to pursue a more local – to me - opportunity that has arisen and I’m sure will be announced shortly.

The past four years at Abingdon United I have seen some tough (for the club/pandemic) and great times but throughout that we have created what is now two great squads of very talented players combined with a fantastic off the field team as well as some great movements for the club as a whole. I am proud of that achievement and always will be and rest assured the club will forever be in my heart, as corny as that sounds.

Some will remember that before I tried to take a step back from managing/coaching for similar reasons (work) however during that period I found it extremely difficult to not have as much direct involvement with the team so this time that wasn’t really an option.

I feel I leave the club with it being in a very good condition having implemented many strategies over the last few years with the latest being able to bring someone (Kayleigh) in to really push us on a marketing front. It is now time for someone to come in with their own ideas to progress the club to it’s ultimate goal of reaching the National League.

The future is very bright for Abingdon United and I will always encourage anyone who can get involved, to just do it.

The thank-you’s; the list could go on but everyone from the chairman, committee, management team, sponsors, Abingdon Youth, Oxford Blackbirds, fans, parents through to and most importantly the players (and I’m sure I missed some off) I really am extremely grateful for your dedication, trust and commitment to project #AUWFC and for giving me some amazing memories, without all of you football wouldn't have been the same.

A special thank you to John and Debbie Blackmore who have been fully behind the project since Jay and I first rocked up in 2017.

There will be a handover period and I know the club are keen to get recruiting straight away so I may be around over the next few weeks but it is bye for now.

Ads”.

The club will announce shortly the next steps in terms of recruitment.

We would like to thank Adam for his hard work and commitment to the club over the past four years and wish him every success in the future
