Abingdon United FC can confirm that Chris Smith will step away from the Club, after 18 months, at the end of the 2025/26 season

Abingdon United Women Football Club can confirm that First Team Manager Chris Smith will step down from his role at the conclusion of the 2025/26 season, as he steps away from management to focus on family commitments.

Chris has played an important role in the continued development of the club during his tenure, demonstrating commitment, professionalism and a strong dedication to the players and wider club environment. His leadership has contributed to a positive and competitive campaign, with the club successfully securing its place in the FA Women’s National League for the upcoming season.

The club would like to place on record its sincere thanks to Chris for his efforts and contribution both on and off the pitch. We wish him every success for the future.

Speaking on his decision, Chris said:
"Abingdon United has now played two parts in the history of my football career. The players have been a part of my life for 18 months and I cannot thank them enough for everything. I will always be a supporter and will always be at the end of the phone for any of them. I’m extremely sad to be stepping away, but it’s the right decision for me and allows the club to move forward in a positive manner."

Work is already underway behind the scenes as the club begins the process of identifying and appointing a new First Team Manager, with further updates to be provided in due course.
