Youth Team Spotlight: Our 2025/26 Under-13s

Lorand Deszpa

Exciting football, 90 goals and a season filled with memorable moments.

We begin our new Youth Team Spotlight series by celebrating Abingdon United’s 2025/26 Under-13s and an impressive season of exciting, attacking football.

Having only just been promoted to the highly competitive A League, the team enjoyed an outstanding first season at that level. Across 24 matches, including seven cup games, they recorded 18 victories, one draw and only five defeats. They scored an impressive 90 goals and finished third in the league.

Their cup run took them all the way to the semi-final, where they suffered an agonising defeat on penalties. However, that disappointment did not stop the Yellow Army from enjoying an action-packed summer.

The Under-13s won two tournaments, at Hanney and Grove, and also reached numerous other finals and semi-finals.

The team’s most memorable match was an epic 5–4 cup victory over Bracknell Town. Facing a JPL/grassroots side with a team depleted by injuries made the achievement even more impressive.

One moment, however, may be remembered above all others: goalkeeper Joe Quinn scoring directly from a drop kick away at Blackbird Leys. The looks on the opposition players’ faces were priceless!

Congratulations to the players and coaches on a tremendous season. The team now moves forward as Abingdon United Under-14s for the 2026/27 campaign.
