AUWFC finally open up their competitive campaign against Launton Ladies FC on Sunday. After a last minute (19:30 on Saturday night) decision by the league to change the divisions following Kidlington's withdrawal meant that Abingdon will now be playing in Division One of the Thames Valley Counties Women's Football League.

Launton had a good campaign in 2016/17 finishing 4th, 5 points behind winners Oxford City Development.

Abingdon will be without eight players for their first ever competitive fixture as Alex Baker (knee), Jane Younger (ankle), Tina Higgs (knee) and Tee Koudoua (hip) are all sidelined due to injury, Kiera Isaac starts her two match suspension carried over from the summer tournaments whilst Ethne Rothery, Anne Campbell and Emma Poffley are unavailable due to work commitments. The rest of the squad will, of course, be making their debuts (competitive) for AUWFC.

Following a successful preseason and the brilliant news of promotion last week Abingdon will be hoping they can start the season off with a bang.
