MATCH PREVIEW| Marine Academy Plymouth LFC v Abingdon United WFC
The Yellows plan to embark on the 402 mile round trip in historic fixture
?️ Erme Valley, Plymouth (PL21 9ES)
? Saturday, 8 February 2026 — FA Women’s National League Division One South West
⚽ Kick-off: 14:00
Abingdon United WFC make the trip south to Erme Valley this weekend as they head to Devon for their FA Women’s National League Division One South West clash against Marine Academy Plymouth LFC — the first ever league meeting between the two sides.
? Season So Far
Marine Academy Plymouth LFC (MAPLFC)
MAP are competing in their latest campaign in Division One South West after earning promotion from the South West Regional Women’s League Premier last season. While still settling into the demands of Tier Four football, MAPLFC have shown flashes of promise — collecting a handful of wins and competitive performances — and currently sit 9th as they look to build momentum with home support behind them.
Abingdon United WFC
For Abingdon United, this season marks another chapter in their FAWNL journey. The Oxfordshire side have established themselves in Division One South West after finishing just above the relegation zone last campaign, building on the momentum of promotion only a few seasons ago. United have shown good goal threat at times this season and currently sit comfortably in the top half of the table, aiming for another positive result on the road.
⚽️ Preparation & Build-Up
This fixture comes at an important juncture for both squads. MAPLFC will be keen to utilise their home pitch and rally their defensive resilience to frustrate visiting teams. Only 2 teams in the top 3 were able to come away with maximum points at Erme Valley whilst the 3 other teams to travel south, have come away pointless. MAPLFC have managed to bag 11 goals in their 5 home games whilst conceding 7 so they certainly will have confidence in their ability to find the net.
Abingdon United do travel with a bucket load of confidence though, currently 5th in the league and with 2 games in hand on the 2 teams above them, they will look to build on the recent form with 4 wins and 1 loss in their last 5 games.
Abingdon United have won 50% of their league fixtures and have only lost to the 4 teams that are currently above them in the league.
Both teams will fancy their chances with a lot of things in their favours but one thing is that both teams will give everything like they have all season
???? History & Head-to-Head
The two teams have only met once in a competitive league fixture before, spoils were shared with a 2–2 draw back in August 2025. This unique encounter sets the tone for what promises to be a competitive first meeting, with both sides familiarising themselves with one another’s style ahead of this landmark clash.

?️ Manager’s Thoughts
United’s manager Chris Smith said in his pre-match notes:
“We’re really looking forward to this game, we are really looking forward to any game but this one in particular. MAP have earned their place in this division, they have shown they can mix it in the league and will be tough to beat at home. For us, it’s about commitment, intensity and making sure we control the areas of the pitch that matter. The players are ready, and we’re excited to compete and make our mark in what will be the first meeting between our clubs.”
?️ Note
Both clubs have asked for supporters to keep an eye on social media for any updates regarding the fixture. The weather always has a part to play and we do not want people travelling unnecessarily
? Updates
As always, AUWFC will be updating their X account throughout the game for those that cannot attend the game so please keep an eye out for them
