Abingdon United WFC travel to face Keynsham Town Women this Sunday in the FA Women’s National League Division One South West.

After recent cancellations and cup action, United now return to league duties with an important away test against an established side in the division. Trips to Crown Fields are never straightforward, with Keynsham traditionally strong on home turf and pushing toward the upper end of the table in recent seasons, regardless of current league position, we know that Keynsham Town will provide a tough test for the Yellows.
Last time the teams played in the League was back in October, Northcourt was the venue and Abingdon were comfy in the tie, coming away with 4 goals and 3 points, however, the last time the Oxfordshire team visited The AJN Stadium, a single goal separated the teams in Keynsham Towns favour.

Abingdon United – League Form
Abingdon head into the fixture looking to build momentum in the league table. Currently sitting mid-table with games in hand on several sides around them, United know that positive results in these fixtures could significantly shift their position.
With only 1 fixture in the 2026 calendar year, they are going to be ready for a jam packing 3 months with all fixtures now scheduled in with only 1 weekend spare up until the end of April.
They know that the last result was not up to the scratch for them, so they will hopefully be ready to right that wrong on Sunday

The Opposition – Keynsham Town Women
Competing in the FA Women’s National League Division One South West, Keynsham have continued to demonstrate why they are considered one of the more consistent sides in the division.
Keynsham are finding the campaign tough this year and are worryingly close to the wrong end of the table. Along with that they have parted ways with some serious experience and talent but that hasn't stopped them picking up some good results at home, where they are clearly more comfy.
Sunday will be a chance for them to put right a poor result from Thursday night and for sure, will be up for a fight against Abingdon

Previous Meeting
2 goals from Molly Lygo, a goal from Mimi and a 1st AUWFC goal for Issy Bradley gave the Yellows the 3 points with Jenna Bakehouse the only reply that Keynsham could muster up
Mimi Hodges met a Molly Lygo corner to give Abingdon a 1-0 HT lead
It was that girl involved again, when Mollie Dyer pulled a wonderful cross into the box for Lygo to invert and finish tidily in the bottom corner
Issy Bradley opened her account just 15 minutes later. Harassing the Keynsham defenders and finishing over the keeper from a long Libby Gilmore, ball
Molly Lygo made sure that Bakehouse's tidy finish was nothing but a blip when Mimi Hodge skipped past 3 players and staked a claim for assist of the season, with a travela between the 2 defenders to meet a perfectly timed run for Lygo to skip around the keeper and tap into an empty net

Preparation & Focus
With the league table beginning to take shape heading into the latter part of the campaign, every point carries additional weight. For Abingdon, consistency will be the aim — turning strong performances into tangible results and trying to continue the tight defensive displays that the league has shown in previous league fixtures.
Keynsham’s home advantage and will be desperate to pull further away from the bottom part of the league, but United will take confidence from recent league displays and the knowledge that they are capable of competing with anyone in the division on their day.

Manager’s Thoughts
United manager Chris Smith said in his pre-match notes:
“Keynsham are a very well-established side at this level and they’re always tough at Crown Fields. For us, it’s about setting the standard for the remainder of the season by performing as well as we can, working as hard as we can and creating a platform for us to build on. We’ve shown we can compete, now we need to make sure we’re consistent over 90 minutes. The squad are focused and ready for a big test.”

Note
Supporters travelling to Crown Fields are advised to take note of the car parking cost and the need to pay within 15 mins of arriving.

Updates
As always, AUWFC will be providing live updates on their X account throughout the afternoon for those unable to attend.
