United Women Development claimed an incredible 3-1 victory over higher league opposition Oxford City, to claim the Chairman's Cup under the lights at Beaconsfield Town.
After a heroic effort to turn the game around away at AFC Stoneham in the final, the odds were once again stacked against Jon Ward and Paul Biddle's side in the final.
However, it was The Yellows who started strongest, and in the 7th minute they went ahead. A ball through the middle found Charlotte Bigmore, who fired past City 'keeper Keira Maskell to give United the advantage.
A few minutes later on the 14th minute, it was two. Brilliant work from Bigmore to knock a ball past the defender lead to an opportunity in the area, and she fired into the top left corner to send United Development into dreamland early on.
Oxford City would inevitably put the pressure on, and that was the story for the rest of the game. Early defending from Jess Southey and Frida Ives denied one-on-one openings, before Maisie Moore had to be alert to deny City on multiple occasions throughout the game.
Into the second half and it was the same pattern, but again with City missing clear sights at goal. A corner from the right was not dealt with at the front post by Abingdon, but was fired over the bar from a few yards out.
Despite the second half dominance from the tier five side, United did have an opportunity five minutes into the second 45. A long throw from Ives found Mimi Hodges in the area, with her curling effort going just wide of the target.
The Hoops kept pushing but United stood firm. With 20 minutes left, a good diving save down to her right from Moore denied City again.
The last ten minutes did see more openings for United. A ball into the back post by Anaya Gray found Izzy Hughes who could not convert, before Gray had an effort of her own with a header towards goal, comfortably saved by Maskell.
With three minutes remaining, and United put the game to bed. A long-distance effort from Mimi Hodges, who has been doing that all season, found the top left corner, to send Holloways Park into pandemonium.
Yasmin Edwards scored a consolation for Oxford late on, but it would be Abingdon United Development who would lift the Chairman's Cup, with captain Beth Hawtin lifting the trophy in a historic night for Abingdon United Football Club.
The Southern Region Women's Football League Chairman's Cup Final Player of the Match was Charlotte Bigmore, after scoring twice in the final, and finishing the season with 21 goals in 21 appearances in all competitions. She also claims top spot across men's and women's senior sides for goals in the 2025/26 campaign.
